Part of the credit of the founding of the city can be traced back to TV legend Desi Arnaz who with several other partners built and opened the Desi Arnaz Western Hills Lodge in 1957. This eventually led to the development of what is now the Indian Wells Country club. The Hotel is now a newer structure called the The Indian Wells Resort Hotel.
